Biography
Winner of the 1st Prize in Opera at the 2007 International Voice Competition in Marmande, young Canadian coloratura soprano Marie-Eve Munger has been hailed for her crystalline timbre, soaring range and moving performances.
This season, Marie-Eve Munger made her company debut with the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, France, with the role of Ophélie in Thomas’ Hamlet and has been re-engaged to sing Nanetta Verdi’s Falstaff in 2011. She also returned to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris for the title role in Villa-Lobos’ comic opera Magdalena in May 2010. This summer, Marie-Eve Munger will be at Glimmerglass Opera performing in Le Nozze di Figaro and The Tender Land, as well as a solo recital.
In addition to concerts and recitals, recent engagements include featured performances with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in L’Orchestre Enchanté and Voix d’Espoir, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in the World Premiere of Pastorale by Pesson, l’Opéra de Tours in Mesdames de la Halle by Offenbach, the New Haven Symphony in The Creation, l’Orchestre Symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean as Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen, the Banff Centre for the Arts as Mozart’s Queen of the Night, the Société d’art lyrique du Royaume as Gabrielle, Sylvabelle, Mabel and Ernestine. She has also appeared with the McGill Chamber Orchestra in Messiah, La Cantarina by Haydn, Dixit Dominus by Handel, as well as with Opera McGill as Cunegonde in Candide, Évangéline 2 in the World Premiere of Évangéline Revisited by Julian Wachner, and with the Mondial Choral Festival 2008 in Will Todd’s Mass in Blue.
Marie-Eve is a district winner with the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and will be perform at the regional finals at the Kennedy Center in January 2010. An accomplished recitalist, she has presented a solo recital at the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC, recorded for CBC/Radio-Canada, presented several solo recital and shared the recital concert stage with some of Canada’s leading artists, including baritone Gino Quilico, countertenor Daniel Taylor, pianist Michael McMahon, and baritone Jean-François Lapointe, specializing in melodies from Debussy to Strauss.
Awarded the Wirth Scholarship, Marie-Eve Munger earned the degree of Master of Music in performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal.
