Biography

Having been recently profiled in Opera News, Korean soprano Hana Park is making waves in the United States, and is recognized as a fresh new talent on the rise. This season, Hana sings Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Cincinnati May Festival. Hana will return to Wolf Trap Opera this summer to sing the title role in Mozart’s Zaide. This past summer at Wolf Trap Opera she performed the roles of Mimì in La bohème and Amor in Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria. Of her Mimì the Washington Post declared that, “As the emotional center of the opera, she glowed.” She was also recently seen as the soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s May Festival, conducted by James Conlon.

At Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Hana has been featured as Nannetta in Falstaff, Mimì in La bohème and Lucrezia in Lucrezia Legende, as well as performing Haydn’s Harmoniemesse with the CCM Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra. She has also appeared in concert with the Ashville Symphony Orchestra for the Beethoven Mass in C and Musica Sacra for both Handel’s Messiah and the Coronation Mass of Mozart. In the summer of 2008 Ms. Park was a participant of the Tanglewood Music Festival, where she had the opportunity to work in a master class setting with Maestro James Levine and Phillis Curtin. There she sang the role of the Maiden in Kurt Wiell’s The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny as well as György Kurtág’s Kafka-Fragmente op.24 and selections from the Spanisches Liederbuch by Hugo Wolf.

A native of Seoul, South Korea and graduate of Seoul National University, Hana has performed the roles of Violetta in La traviata and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte in Seoul. She was also a featured soprano soloist in Seoul National University’s performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. She is the recipient of the Corbett Award and Italo Tajo Memorial Award of the Corbett Opera Competition at CCM, and Grand-Prix and Audience Award from The Seventh International Lied Competition of Japanischen Schubert–Gesellschaft abroad.
