Biography
Young Uruguayan-American tenor Gaston Rivero, has already established himself as a fast-rising talent. His professional debut came in 2003 with the Broadway production of Puccini’s La bohème in New York City, by Australian film director and producer Baz Luhrman. Gaston will reprise his Rodolfo later this season for Arizona Opera. Later this season he performs in Maria Victoire for Deutsche Oper Berlin and in concert with Toledo Opera.
Mr. Rivero’s international credits on the operatic stage include the roles of Don José in Carmen with Deutsche Oper Berlin and l’Opéra de Lausanne on their tour of Japan; Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata with Palm Beach Opera; B. F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Staatstheater Nürnberg; Roméo in Roméo et Juliette with Opera Carolina and PORTopera.
Gaston Rivero has received a number of awards including First Place of the The Fritz and Lavinia Jensen Foundation, The Gerda Lissner Foundation, The Concurso Internacional de Canto Montserrat Caballe, The Giulio Gari Foundation, The Caruso vocal competition, The Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, The Dixy Drechsler Scholarship from The Opera Foundation, Inc — Deutsche Oper Berlin Award 2008, The Vidda Award from Opera Orchestra of New York 2007-2008 and the 28th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2009. He was a Grand Finalist in Plácido Domingo’s OPERALIA competition 2006, The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Vocal Competition 2005 and the Concurso Internacional de Canto FRANCISCO VIÑAS 2008.
Gaston Rivero made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2002. His frequent appearances at Carnegie Hall have included Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confesore; Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla and several roles with Opera Orchestra of New York.
Gaston Rivero continues to study with Maestro Eugene Kohn and Maestro Israel Gursky, in addition to vocal instruction and dramatic coaching from director and teacher Ira Siff.
