Biography

Currently an ensemble member of Saechsische Staatsoper Dresden, tenor Aaron Pegram started his road to the operatic stage only in 2003 after winning the second prize at the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Award sponsored by the Orlando Opera.  Previously, Mr. Pegram had a successful career at Walt Disney World in Florida playing over 1500 performances of The Hunchback of Notre Dame: A Musical Adventure in the title role of Quasimodo.

This season in Dresden, Aaron performs Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Elemer in Arabella, Lippo Fiorentino in Street Scene, Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser and Borsa in Rigloetto, among other assignments. With the Saechsische Staatsoper, he has previously performed Cajus in Falstaff, and Camille in Die Lustige Witwe. Engagements for the 2007-2008 season saw Mr. Pegram making his New York City Opera debut as Goro in Madama Butterfly, as well as covering Bardolfo in Falstaff for the company.  Additionally he returned to Orlando Opera as Alfred in Die Fledermaus, sang Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Birmingham, and made his Anchorage Opera debut as Pedrillo in Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio. In the summer of 2008 he returned to Santa Fe Opera as Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro.  In 2009 he sings Pedrillo with Opera New Jersey and begins a contract with the Saechsische Staatsoper Dresden, where his assignments will include such roles as Pedrillo, Nazarene in Salome, Steuerman in  Der fliegende Holländer, Borsa in Rigoletto, and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte among others.   In 2006-2007 Mr. Pegram sang Remendado in Carmen for his debut with Virginia Opera, returned to the Orlando Philharmonic as a soloist in their Messiah, and was a member of the roster at Utah Opera, where his assignments included the tenor solos in Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Handel’s Messiah with the Utah Symphony and Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Utah Opera.  This past summer he returned for his second summer with Santa Fe Opera where he sang Second Shepherd in Strauss’ Daphne.

Highlights of the 2005-2006 season included a return to the Orlando Opera as a guest artist singing Little Bat in Susannah and Nemorino  in L’elisir d’amore, and Spalanzani/Nathaniel in Les Contes des Hoffmann for his debut appearance with El Paso Opera. Mr. Pegram joined the Santa Fe Opera as an apprentice for the summer of 2006 performing the role of the Herald in Cendrillon and covering the roles of Antonio in The Tempest and 4th Jew in Salome.

After winning the Heinz Rehfuss Award, Orlando Opera offered him a position with the Resident Artist Program where he performed Beppe in Pagliacci, The Swan in Carmina Burana, Pedrillo in Abduction!, first Jew in Salome, the Messenger in Aida and the lead tenor role in The Mikado, Nanki Poo directed by acclaimed Dorothy Danner.  In addition Mr. Pegram made his Symphonic debut in Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with the Orlando Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Hal France.

Mr. Pegram holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK. While in college, he performed roles such as: Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls, Woof in the musical Hair, and Romeo in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. After his years in The Hunchback of Notre Dame : A Musical Adventure, Aaron traveled to Tokyo Japan to performed in the premiere cast of Encore! a musical review at Tokyo Disney Sea. Upon his return to Orlando he also became part of the acclaimed Voices of Liberty at Epcot Center.
