Matt Boehler: Marchese di Calatrava
Verdi wrote for this Spanish cloak-and-dagger drama of forbidden love and violated honor one of his most melodious scores. Revenge courses throughout the piece — in the traces of the famous overture to its inexorable ending. Verdi celebrates in October of 2013 his 200th birthday.
