David Portillo: Belmonte
Following the adventures of a young Spanish nobleman, his lover, and their servants who are kidnapped and placed into service to the Pasha, The Abduction from the Seraglio serves up side-splitting laughter alongside moments of genuine pathos. Two stars of Pittsburgh Opera’s The Barber of Seville (2010) return in another comic pairing: David Portillo as the nobleman Belmonte, and Paolo Pecchioli as the Pasha’s right-hand man, Osmin. Lisette Oropesa takes the demanding role of Konstanze in her Pittsburgh Opera debut, and Joseph Gaines (Turandot, 2011) returns as Pedrillo. The unique production, from Houston Grand Opera, places the action on the luxurious Orient Express train. Music Director Antony Walker conducts. Tickets & Information.
