Having captured the imaginations of audiences and critics alike with his 2009 production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, director Christopher Alden continues to create “the most consistently vibrant operatic theater in the city” (The New York Observer) when he returns to lead this highly-anticipated second production in his ongoing Mozart/da Ponte cycle for City Opera. With Così fan tutte, Alden invests da Ponte’s stirring words and Mozart’s brilliant music with his trademark perceptive and daring style — bringing this meditation on loyalty and commitment, love and infatuation, sharply into focus. The cast for this new production will once again feature a selection of today’s most promising young talents, bringing this story of a cynical test of two sisters’ fidelity to life in the intimate Gerald W.
