Gaston Rivero: Agamennone

Vittorio Gnecchi´s CASSANDRA and Richard Strauss’ ELEKTRA are not only pieces of the same puzzle respecting the narrative element concerning the curse of the Atrides. Shortly after ELEKTRA premiered, an article was published with the title Telepatia musicale? [Musical Telepathy?], in which author Giovanni Tebaldini tried to prove with the help of scores that Richard Strauss, who was familiar with CASSANDRA, had musically and thematically made use of Gnecchi´s work. Nowadays this issue is rightfully considered secondary by contemporary researchers. Despite this fact, it is fascinating to combine these two works that have so much in common thematically [and musically]. This is why on four evenings CASSANDRA by Vittorio Gnecchi and Richard Strauss’ ELEKTRA will be performed according to their mythological linearity.  Tickets & Information.
