Jesse Blumberg: Celebrant

Bernstein’s 1971 work Mass: A Theatre Piece for Singers, Players and Dancers is a remarkable work of music performed by a cast of hundreds, and lies at the very heart of The Bernstein Project. More than any of his other works, this immense piece can be seen as the summation of everything for which Bernstein stood. It caused instant controversy when it was first performed in 1971. Conceived as a tribute to fallen President John F Kennedy, a personal friend of Bernstein, Massdraws much inspiration from the troubled era in which it was composed. Almost 40 years have passed since its first performance but the themes are more relevant today than ever.  Tickets & Information.
